TGPT FRIENDS:PENNY PINCHING ? Apparently falling oil and gasoline revenues for petroleum companies has them increasing their retail margins by an additional cent in Toronto and area. We note that while a 1 cent a litre was warranted for today (Thurs Jan 22) no change in price took place. We also note higher priced fuel in many cities in Canada where retail margins have almost doubled this week.

As a result, Gas prices are expected to RISE 2 + cents overnight for Friday Jan 23, pushed higher by the collapsing Loonie.

SOURCE: Gas Buddy Blog Wednesday Evening.
With the Bank of Canada today signaling concern over the effect of lower oil prices to the Canadian economy, the decision to cut the central interest rate for the first time in 4 years has sent the Loonie tumbling. At the same time, oil and gasoline are seeing something of a rally on energy markets. The effect of these coinciding events means that beginning this FRIDAY, most Canadian cities are likely to see a MINIMUM pump price increase of 2 OR MORE CENTS per litre.

Of my five daily regular stations, only Canadian Tire had lowered the price to 89.9. All the others were still at 90.9.

For me it's maybe a tank a month, bit more sometimes. It's more of a psychological issue I think in that we have and continue to be gouged all the time that any relief is welcomed.

Finally, prices are going up...

I am just wandering how much gas you guy and gals use for average week/month? Why is such fuss about 80c gas? Everybody lives in a car? Everybody is taxi driver?

>>>maybe that explains the lineups for 79.9 litre gas tonight in Brampton?

Yes, Costco is even worse, looong lineups today to get gas for 78.9.
This is so silly considering prices will go down again Saturday and probably Sunday.

Crispy: Costco now has a slight disadvantage: you can't use Amex there, which gives 5% cashback. Regulas stations like esso or petro do accept amex.

I saw the cheap Brampton gas prices yesterday while I was there picking up my son yesterday night but it was just too darn cold to stop and fill up! I still had about 3/4 of a tank of gas anyhow, so I didn't really need gas anyways. Hopefully the prices stay this cheap for a while so that the next few times that I see him I'll be able to fill up in warmer weather :)

Soon the gas price will be around $0.50 and your pension plan and RRSP will be close to ZERO. Enjoy cheap gas. Buy a SUV and waste, waste, waste

Maybe, if you live in Mississauga or bordering Brampton. For 50-60km round trip even if you are really empty and putting 70 liters, saving will be $1-2 + wasted time.

I just took a drive to Brampton and couldn't believe my eyes. It's worth the trip to Brampton if you're empty! The difference is at least 11.3 cents per litre. Happy New Year!
