I don't but there gas anyway, but boycott will do nothing anyway, stop buying cars and trucks new and used if you want to hurt the oil companies in the long run!

This belongs in the spam forum, but since that doesn't exist yet, the boycott forum would be the second choice. It certainly doesn't belong in the General Gas Talk forum.

I rarely buy from Exxon or Mobil. On the "flip side" everyone is upset about their "record" profits. Although their profits are tremendous, aren't we all glad that we live in a country that does not limit earnings? Wouldn't you be happy if the company that you work for (even if you are self-employed) made record profits? I know that I would. Of course, they could help the consumer and propose some price breaks.

When you consider the fact that the gasoline you are purchasing was probably fed through one of the major pipelines in this country, and that pipeline was NOT owned by a major oil company, and that ALL the oil companies use it, the gasoline you purchase, despite the sign on the pump, may have been produced by the very company you are trying to boycott.
Okay, so ExxonMobil made $40 billion in 2007. How much gasoline did they sell? How much of that profit was from US operations versus foreign operations? How much of that profit was from gasoline sales versus other profit centers? Name another industry that produces saleable unit quantities (in this case gallons) in the quantities that oil companies produce gasoline?
Current gasoline demand in the US is somewhere in excess of 9 million barrels per day. That is 378 million gallons of gasoline per day. That is 137.9 billion gallons of gasoline per year.

It is possible a Mobil/Exxon refinery is supplying gas to the station where you buy your gas while you are boycotting the Mobil/Exxon station. There are only a few refineries in any given area and they provide gasoline to their competition. The only difference is the additive package added to the tanker prior to the delivery to the stations.

For the first time I can remember, prices at the mobil station in town actually were not higher than our other stations last week. I still didn't buy there.

The World Market is letting them earn that profit for their STOCKHOLDERS. And their stockholders are many of the same people that complain about them. I did not here anyone complain when oil was cheap and Exxon/Mobile were not making super profits.

So, stop buying from ExxonMobil and buy 7-11, Walmart, or Sinclair gas. I wonder where they get their gas from.... Care to guess big_steve?

In Houston, Exxon is among the cheapest. Chevron is on the high side of average. You really have to shell out for Shell.

I stopped buying from Exxon along with Chevron years ago. They are always the highest here in Atlanta, yet I regularly see people buying gas from them when it is 10 - 15 cents cheaper across the street. You are right, as long as people do this, Exxon and Chevron will continue to have higher prices than everyone else.
I saw an EXXON station go from $3.27 to $3.51 in less than 9 hours.
