Ok,first I have posted gas prices. I think to rephrase boycotting the high price stations is not stop buying from a mom and pop store.
In my area we have a few stores that are corporate owned "On the Run" Exxon stations. These have typically been 5 to 10 cents higher than the store down the street. These are the ones I do not want to see get any more sales from us.
We have three Chevron stations that are like this and they have been as much as 17 cents higher than the others across the street yet I still see people getting gas there.
You can't tell me that the bigger corporate owned stations are paying more than a local independent down the street. This was going on even when gas was less than 2.00 a gallon.

Here's a data point: As of the time of this post, dallasgasprices.com lists an average Dallas gas price of $3.917. Of the 29 Exxon stations with gas prices posted, 10 are above the average price, while 19 are below the average gas price.

I agree with you old_trekee2. If I buy gas for someone, I don't go to Exxon, WalMart or Costco either. Mom and pop shops are my favs!

This is a gimee. We all buy from the lowest station anyway. However I do not buy from stations like Wal Mart and Kroger, etc... They sell it so cheap a private owner cannot make a profit. They will run the little guy out of business. Gotta watch out for the people that really care about you! GO BUCKS!!!

I think this person who just bothered to make one post on a board and won't give gas prices is just spewing hot air. We don't need to make signs, because guess what, THAT'S THE PURPOSE OF THIS SITE! We don't need to boycott, just buy from the dude with the lowest price. You go to a grocery store, it's the same thing, nae?

I have never noticed any gas gouging over by me. All the gas stations around me charge within about 2% of each other. How bad is the price gouging in Dallas?

You are right DuxxGirl95, but you're wrong on one thing; the boycott is working, you just can't tell yet or see it and you don't hear about it much yet. You will one day, in the future.
And yes, I think most agree with one thing, we buy from the lowest places anyhow. I don't need to right now, but even when I buy gas for those who need it or a friend or someone, I direct them to some place besides Exxon.

Boycotts don't work unless you can get millions of people doing it all at the same time. There are enough of the stupid high-maintenacne people who have money to burn who go to the high-end gas prices because they don't care. They have money to blow and the rest of us working class stiffs don't. In other words, unless these dumb rich people (which in OC are many) participate in the boycotts it won't be worth the time or the energy. It wouldn't change a thing unless we got FULL participation.

And while I've seen the traffic at Exxon's a little bit lower when I go past, they're still high at some others and not always that low at the higher priced stations. I sure wouldn't be paying a dime or more for the same fuel. I'd be using this place and getting the best prices or www.gpw.com too!

Everyone else here has already been supporting the low priced stations, where have you been.

Even the smaller gas stations are raising their prices so that no one can get a break. Look at the gas temperature maps on this website. There may be 1 or 2 gas station in an area that is relatively reasonable, but most of them are within 1 to 2 cents of each other. If your car DOES NOT NEED premium and if your EGO can withstand going to a no name gas station, please save yourself and ALL of us the burden of paying these outrageous prices. Try it at least for a week ans see how much you save $$$ and are less stressed out. Thanks

FWIW, $4 gas isn't widespread in Houston.
If you'd like some, go to a Shell station. You may be able to buy better gas than Shell, but you can't pay any higher price.

Here, here jptexas2006 and welcome to the forum. In our area, San Jose, Ca., high priced gougers are exposed and chastised. For instance, 3 Chevron stations were recently exposed selling their regular gas for .40 cents more than the lowest priced regular in the same area and I posted a forum message shaming these gougers under topic "Discussion of local gas price Trends and Observations" I have seen this be effective in at least one instance where another gouger, this time a 76 station, was apparently shamed into lowering his prices more in line with the other 76 stations in the area. He had been a full 50 cents above the others! I imagine the exposure and subsequent thin business had something to do with the lowered prices.

People are already doing it, just not enough. Traffic is down at the local Exxons and Shells, but not enough.

Now what if the higher priced gas stations are not corporate owned???
Your boycott could possibly put them out of business. That won't help things at all. In fact, independents have it much worse because they are not subsidized by a large corporation.
My 2 cents worth.

Or even better, let your buddies and neighbors know about this site! :)
But like I was saying in another thread, Exxon in some areas is one of the lowest-priced stations, while Mobil is higher-priced. This is what happens with business partnerships. If you really want to get back to good ol' competition, bust out the Sherman Antitrust Act.

In theory, this sounds like a great idea. The reality is that you would hurt the individual gas station owner. Exxon et al just made billions of dollars last quarter yet the actual station owners made very little. They can outlast us. Don't forget, these are international corporations. For any boycott to work you would have to get buy in from people around the world. Ain't gonna happen but if you think that you can make a difference, knock yourself out.

There's only a handful of Exxon stations here in town. Do you think the stations are ExxonMobil's ONLY source of income? Not by a long shot, pilgrim. The airport uses MOST of the refinery's output.
Did you ever consider that, Pilgrim?

Do you work for Wal-Mart,Valero,Phillips etc.?? Just kidding. I think we need to find ways to car pool. That is the only way to lower demand. There are too many cars with one person commuting in the morning.

Break a leg pilgrim...looks like you've got a lot of free time on your hands. Seems like the rebels without a clue just keep popping up these days.
