Unfortunately it's too far to where I work to, logically, walk! Wish I could!

"it is so hot outside, and with high UV levels, how do u walk?"
Well, when I ride my bike, I wear sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat (helmet). The heat really doesn't bother me, even with heat index and asvault temperature.

I quite often leave the car parked all weekend. I'm fortunate that there are several grocery stores that I can walk to and purchase groceries that I can carry comfortably. I also get the benefit of the exercise which is my main reason for walking in the first place. With the gas prices constantly on the rise I do this more and more.

Sadly I really can't just say I'm going to walk to work since work is eighteen miles away (via expressway) and I really don't live near any bus stops. I would if I could but for now my walking has to be limited to just as exercise.

I would do it as well, the problem is getting everyone else to do it too. I only buy gas once a week on the same day.

i think you all need to see the big picture! as long as Americans are as overweight and lazy as they are they can put the price as high as they want and the majority of people are still going to buy it. yeah they will complain but wont do anything about it. i think in order for prices to go down we all need to start walking places get a bike and ride to the mall. i am sick of seeing all these overweight people eating and driving and talking on there cellphones it is just plain wrong. stop complaining about it and do something about it!!! we all need to carpool, combine trips, walk, bike, maybe shop by phone - call and ask for best prices rather than drive around - on an aggressive basis. We'll be in better shape and save on the gas we didn't use even if the prices DON'T go down.

Yeah, right. How far can you walk. If gas is $2 a gallon and you get twenty mpg you will save about 50 cents, 1 quart of gas, if you walk five miles. Why not try carpooling.

Great idea...and I have already been cutting back on my fuel consumption and I now pay less now than when the prices started increasing the beginning of this year.
I drive my volvo instead of my SUV (it gets twice the mileage), consolidate errands/trips, take mass transit when I can (which involves walking)..

My husband drives the kids and I to get the big groceries runs, big purchases etc.. Kids and I walk as much as we can to place we need to get to for everything else.
I sometimes can convince my husband to take a walk with us too for somethings.
Also I walk to work too; it might take me 1/2 hr. to get there, but it is all good.
Anyways it's a great way to get some exercise

Government at all levels needs to get involve. It is always the LITTLE guys that has to take the hit for everything. Maybe, just maybe they could lead the way and cut back on all the waste of taxpayers money and use it to build some refineries here in the United States. How many Government personnel have you ever heard say that would take a pay cut to help with ANYTHING?????????

You are right about cutting back. There are many ways this can be done and some involve local government (e.g. improving traffic light coordination). Everyone should think of what their community can do to reduce gasoline and diesel fuel consumption for everyone.

My family and I have been doing whatever we can to cut back. Walking when it's feasible. No unneccessary trips into town. When we do go we make sure we have a list of everything we need so we can get it all on one trip. Run errands on the way home from work instead of going out again.
