Ethanol is big industry too. They get caught violating a law they get fined. reb4 what silverstreaker was trying to show is that a similiar incident from a gasoline refinery would carry a much heavier environmental cost. Neither one a good thing, but justifying it? Hardly. -Matt

reb4 asks "are you stating that the Bushmills ethanol issue is not as serious so it's not a problem?"
Bushmills violated the clean water act, so they were fined. Do you believe that discharging salt laden water is as serious as polluting a groundwater aquifer with benzene, a known carcinogen? Just wondering...

"Scientists have found zooplankton with toxic compounds from contact with Deepwater Horizon oil; "black scum" on a deep-sea coral colony 7 miles from the ill-fated, BP well; deformed killifish, a forage species in Louisiana's marshes; and an abnormally high number of dead or seriously ill bottlenose dolphins in the northern Gulf." Ecological answers in BP spill remain beneath the surface Thank You BP....morons!

$800,000 for salty water?
California Refinery Fined $1 Million for Breaking Drinking Water Laws
"Investigators from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Justice determined that Santa Maria Refining Co., located in Santa Maria, Calif., and a subsidiary of Greka Energy Corp., disposed of contaminated wastewater into wells that were not permitted for that use, posing a risk to groundwater supplies. The wastewater contained benzene, which can cause anemia, excessive bleeding and cancer, and also affects the immune system."
