"Battle Cry" Leon Uris. I enlisted in the Marines because of it and that decision has directed the rest of my life.

I became an English teacher after the Marines and taught "Romeo and Juliet" I don't know how many times over the 41 years in the classroom, so you could also say "R&J" is my favorite because of "Battle Cry"

BELOVED, by Toni Morrison. She's the last American to win a Nobel Prize in Literature. It's one of the few books written by a Nobel Laureate in the past 25 years that is an exciting, interesting read.

I know this is going to be stupid, but my favorite book is "The Wind in the Willows". I don't know why, but I have always loved this book!

The Bible
then, "The Divine Liturgy, An Anthology for Worship", Liturgy and prayers of the Ukrainian Greco-Catholic Church. You could maroon me forever with just these two, and I'd be content.

Battle Cry" by Leon Uris influenced my life immeasureably. I joined the Marines, was influenced to become an English teacher which led me to teaching overseas where I met my wife and on down the line.

Sun Tzu's Art of War. I take no interest in war itself, but I think I can honestly say this is the only book that triggers my critical thinking. Anything else I read, I'm just completely cynical all the time.

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. I have worn out three paperback copies. (The last had the atrocious pink cover - what were they thinking?)

I liked the whole series by Patrick O'Brien too.

They combined some of his books into a movie a few years ago called "Master & Commander - The Far Side of the World.".

Very well-done, I thought.

I have favorite authors, but a favorite book would be impossible for me to name.

Agatha Christie, Dean Koontz, Graham Masterton, LaVyrle Spencer, Isaac Asimov are some of my favorite authors.

Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer

After seeing the movie a couple years ago, I had to read the book, and I was fascinated with the story on both mediums.

1984. I've read it close to 50 times. I know a lot of people that hated it and I can understand why....it's one of those books that you either really love or really hate.
