Read the book Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick :) It doesn't have to do with vampires, but it does have plenty of romance in it. Instead of vampires, it deals with fallen angels.

Not much romance but good action-adventure and loads of knowledge about vacation destinations. I like the Anna Pigeon series by Nevada Barr.

Try the science fiction ones by R. Scott Bakker. The Prince of Nothing. Right now, the library has 4 books in the series. If I'm not mistaken there are 2 others in the works for this particular series

I am unsure if you are the type of person who is against Harry Potter, but if you like really well written, very interesting books, I believe this is the perfect series. There is a little romance intertwined with lots of fun and excitement. They are great books.

Have you tried the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series by Laurell K Hamilton? It should appeal to your vampire series pleasure but will be decidedly at odds with your Nicholas Sparks clean family-style writing. There is a point in the series that is basically nothing but porn, but it fits the story line (if you stick with it)...and after that, things DO improve again. Book one is called Guilty Pleasures.

I can't believe I almost forgot. You should also check out the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum series. Book one is "One for the Money." She was up to book 15 at last count, I believe. Very fun. Her non-series romances have been coming back into print since Plum took off, so if you like the style, there is plenty available. She also co-authored a romance series with Charlotte Hughes ... book one is Full House (then Full Tilt, Full Speed, and Full Blast - you guessed it "Full Series").

Ann Rice, the Vampire Chronicles is a series. I thought the movies were better than her books personally.

Karen Marie Moning, writes about paranormal romance. No vampires. Her books are very steamy. I've read the Highlander series and part of the Fae series. These are "faires" but not the good Tinkerbell ones you read as a kid.

Mark Rein-Hagen wrote a few books about vampires, called The Kindred. A TV series was made of this called Kindred: The Embraced. I think 6 shows were made, and it was well done. Mark Frankel, the lead character was killed in an accident unfortunately and the series wasn't continued.
