Yes gas prices has greatly reduced the amount of funds available to spend on holidays. It use to cost $20 to fill the gas tank now it $60 dollars to fill the tank and less milage so every tank of gas now reduces the amount available to spend by $40.00. One tank of gas usually last for about 1 week so that means I over spend by $120.00 monthly for gas

the season of the year or holidays make little difference to my spending.
more in tune with my personal needs is accurate, and to be honest how much i have to spend! since i am on a fixed income which is quite modest my travel requirements are scheduled to coincide or of necessity.

I'm not spending anything, so bah humbug. $2800 for some car repairs that hit right at my 300,000 mile service interval = no Christmas for anyone this year lol.

I am thankful that the prices have dropped a bit recently.

Wouldn't it be nice if I could spend for Christmas like the federal govt has been spending the country's money - without any limitation. But alas, I have to be responsible and only spend what I can afford. Or maybe I can give my daughter gifts and then leave the bills for her to pay after I die. That reminds me of how the President is giving gifts (thru govt programs) for his supporters, even though there is no money to pay those bills; someone else can pay after he is out of office I guess.

Gas prices do not influence my Christmas spending because I shop locally. What I can not purchase locally is ordered on line. We have bought gifts from Plan Canada this year.

Thankfully, the price of gas in the Cleveland area is inching down toward the $3 mark, with one station at $2.99. But it won't last long before we get hit by another 20-cent or more jump if Congress doesn't get off its kick to hold the middle class hostage to the top earners getting to keep the Bush tax cuts. In this sense at least, uncertainty can definitely work against us, with prices fluctuating and companies unwilling to hire people they might not be able to keep on. And I'm sure many are holding back because of it. We'll buy a little less for each other, because how much do you need when you get older? But other family members we still give to will get much the same as usual.

So I guess my answer would have to be yes and no.

Prices are actually down quite a bit, thank goodness! But this year gift giving is simple. - we were given the use of a house in Orlando for a week, and our gift to our 4 adult children and 2 significant others is their airfar to join us. All done! Tickets bought early so didn't cost an arm and a leg.

Yes, especially since we live in the SF Bay Area and have multiple refineries within 30 minutes but are paying the highest gas prices in the U.S. (Calif. blend).
