wwcj: how about installing a common sense button? Too many folks don't even know how to really drive anymore and ask them about a minor thing on their vehicle and they look at you like you're talking some proverbial Greek...

We have start buttons why not kill switches! Would be a simple solutions, instead of massive re-engineering, but then that would not create as many union jobs.

Give them some real teeth. Why not put a kill switch on all cars and trucks? NASCAR has this rule because of past accidents. Just think of young Adam Petty. He was killed because of a stuck throttle. Takes a big name to die before really big changes are made.

Why does this article not say that "NHTSA had eight separate investigations into sudden acceleration," during the Bush administration, with nothing of substance ever happening. If they had of been during the Obama administration, we all know that the line would not have been, "NHTSA had eight separate investigations into sudden acceleration since 2000."

Sure, the gov't pours money into programs and we get to pay for it, both in taxes and the cost of vehicles.

Mandatory black boxes. I wonder how much that will add to the price of a car, especially a low-end car.
And can you ban someone who no longer works for the government, and NOT collecting a pension, from working for a civilian employer? How does that work and does it stand up in court?

Toyota brought a problem to it's head. To bad they got caught trying to cover it up. The Feds are the only ones to get away with playing CYA!

The NHTSA needs to be more flexible and responsive. Expanding the bureaucracy will not lead to reform.

Big government bureacracy. How many more employees will Obama add to the Federal government to take care of this? I read a report that showed that congestion is down all over the country due to the Obama economy, but not in DC, where the number of government employees is increasing. Go figure. LOL

Many government regulatory watchdogs were gutted during the Republican administration because it was perceived as "good for business".

In Japan their culture ignores problems like they're having at Toyota. Here we used to take responsibility for our actions - now our children are taught that feelings and happy thoughts are more important than hard work and accountability. I find it extremely hard to believe that getting Congress more involved will help the situation.

What do you expect from gov't employees. The reforms are only going to get politicians into the spotlight, not solve any problems.

The unfortunate part of this proposal is that, as usual, it is a day late and a dollar short, especially for those deceased Toyota owners.
It is always unfortunate when government has to step in and regulate our economic system. But that is the price we pay for Toyota's "oversight"!
In spite of all the concern the problems appear to be limited to Toyota and its lack of safety awareness, now all will have to pay!

The companies should fix problem rather than trying to buy off politicians and beauracrats. Then extra controls would not be necessary.

The best way to stop a run away vehicle is a mechanical fuel shut off like they have on alot of the race cars.
