Oil rises above $102 on French strike
Wednesday, March 26, 2008
Reuters Canada -- LONDON (Reuters) - Oil rose above $102 a barrel on Wednesday as a strike disrupted operations at French ports and a weakening U.S. dollar prompted some investors to shift money back into commodities.

The 24-hour strike is blocking six ships from entering Fos-Lavera near Marseille, including two oil tankers, the port authority said. It also prevented three tankers from entering the Nantes Saint-Nazaire port.

U.S. crude rose $1.24 to $102.46 a barrel by 1210 GMT (8:10 a.m. EDT), extending the 36-cent gain on Tuesday. London Brent added $1.01 to $101.61.

Hopefully it will hit the French in their wallets. I don't see why this would be news to us.

We're having an election, raise the price of gasoline another ten cents a drop!
We MIGHT elect a (insert your favorite political party here), raise the price of gas a nickel!
OOOH, it's spring, raise the price of DIESEL a quarter a gallon, the snowplows won't be burning it any longer this year (except where the Gooble Worming didn't take hold yet!) and we need to make more profits!
THERE'S a question for ya: Diesel fuel costs LESS to refine; WHY does it cost MORE to buy? Can YOU say "Screw the little independents out of work so the big corporate trucking lines can take over?" Sure you can! Can you say "Stick it to those little SOBs who thought they'd get us by buying a Diesel instead of a gasoline car?" Sure you can!
Okay, maybe I DO sound paranoid. Just remember, just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get ya. It just means you're paranoid.

jdbgn says: "Just what have the french got to do with the price of oil?" Well, for one thing it is a GLOBAL MARKET and all the industrialized countries of the world are in this GLOBAL MARKET competing for the relatively LIMITED SUPPLY of oil... So, when something happens to the supply somewhere, it ripples all around the WORLD.

Now, if lame duck "W" had any guts at all (we already know our C- student has no brains) and would focus on the US economy instead of the 3/4 TRILLION DOLLAR war in Iraq, the US Dollar would not be so WEAK, and the price of everything wouldn't be going up quite so fast... BUT, our "village idiot" won't stop the fight so we can hold on and swirl down the tubes a while longer...

Just what have the french got to do with the price of oil?
Somebody needs to line up about half of the speculators and shoot them.
Get their attention and stop this madness.

For those who still don't get it, prices are caused by the traders in the CHICAGO Mercantile Trade Board, right here in this country as they bid up prices.

Huh? Because some fickel Frenchmen aren't getting a long enough baguette break, the oil speculators jacked up the price?? This one I don't get. OK. So what if French dockworkers are on strike. Have the company move the ship to another port, or sell the oil someplace else. I'm sure they can find a willing buyer someplace close..like Rotterdam, for instance.

talk about Grasping at straws. This reporter is really out on a limb as to why the price of oil went up. Like the French can control the world price of oil with one port being shut down for 1 day.
